Starring: Will Arnett, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera, Ralph Fiennes Director: Chris McKay There's a part of me that doesn't entirely get Lego movies. The characters are based on those from other stories, and retain some of their characteristics but not others. I guess that they kind of emulate the kinds of stories that kids create… Continue reading The Lego Batman Movie (2017)

Horror Franchise: Evil Dead (80’s to 00’s)
Created by Sam Raimi in the early 80's, this franchise stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, a young man who gets mixed up with a cabin in the woods and an ancient book which unleashes unspeakable evil. Campbells camp turn made him a B movie star, and the franchise has been a cult favourite for… Continue reading Horror Franchise: Evil Dead (80’s to 00’s)

Bleed For This – DVD & Blu-Ray Review
As you guys know, I sometimes write for We Make Movies On Weekends, which is a wonderful site for film lovers. This is my latest review for them.
“…the biggest lie I was ever told: It is not that simple. And it is a lie they tell you over and over again…All of it. It is how they get you to give up, they say “It’s not that simple”.”
It’s a line that Miles Teller as Vinny Pazienza, says towards the end of this film. It’s a beautiful sentiment, and he should know. Pazienza is a real person, a man whose boxing career was ostensibly ended when his neck was broken during a car accident. Whilst he was told that he would never walk again, Vinny refused to admit this possibility, and not only walked but went on to become a World Champion Boxer.
Boxing movies seem to me to fall into two camps, either the lovable underdogs like Rocky, who have to prove themselves, or the cautionary biographic like Raging Bull, where the real man is shown…

Brimstone (2017)
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Carice Van Houten, Kit Harington Director: Martin Koolhoven Wow... This film... Those of you who love the dramatic ridiculousness of Game Of Thrones will get a kick out of this, (it even stars two GOT alumni) but at heart, it's dribble. I want to say some good things about it, because… Continue reading Brimstone (2017)
The Founder (2016)
Starring: Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Nick Offerman, Linda Cardellini, Laura Dern Director: John Lee Hancock Who would have thought that a film about the founding of McDonald's could be so engaging? Perhaps it's due to Michael Keaton's particular quality of being likable and a bit crazy, a bit off at the same time. There… Continue reading The Founder (2016)
Nocturnal Animals (2016)
Starring: Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, Director: Tom Ford Some people said that it was crazy that Tom Ford, the fashion designer and makeup mogul, wanted to make films too. And then he made A Single Man, and everyone sat up and took notice. Here he… Continue reading Nocturnal Animals (2016)
Uncertain (2016)
by Hermione Flavia
I’m not always a huge fan of documentaries. I like the cinematic imagery of the bigger budget films, I’m shallow like that. But I do love the kind of insight you get into other places and lives, bigger truths, that you sometimes get in a decent documentary, as long as they’re not preaching at you. (I’m shallow like that too) What I love about Uncertain is that although it’s a documentary, it has beautiful imagery, it’s a very cinematic film. It’s very accessible and very entertaining.
Uncertain is a film about a tiny place, a small town on the border of Texas and Louisiana, with a population of only 94 people. It’s a place that often doesn’t appear on maps, and that people tend to only stumble across if they’re lost, or if they’re trying to hide or run from something. It explores the lives and stories…

A Monster Calls (2016)
Starring: Lewis MacDougall, Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson Director: J A Bayona A story about grief and grieving for kids sounds like a hard sell, but this adaptation of a popular book by Patrick Ness focuses on deeper life truths to avoid the trite and mawkish. Conor (MacDougall) is a kid who has grown… Continue reading A Monster Calls (2016)
