Based on a book that was widely banned for indecency, (and therefore was a huge bestseller in it’s time) Forever Amber is the story of a foundling who runs away from her Puritan home to find a better life, but falls in love with a man who won’t marry her. To make herself of higher status to be worthy of him, she sleeps and marries her way to the top of the social strata, against the backdrop of 17th century Britain. With lush costumes and a lot of hype surrounding it’s release and casting, Forever Amber is a forgotten classic. But is it a good film?
