Starring: Jeremy Gillespie, Steven Kostanski
Director: Aaron Poole, Kenneth Welsh, Daniel Fathers
A grumpy Sherriff stumbles across an injured man on a dark road, and rushes him to the local hospital, which is in the process of being closed down, and offers only a skeleton crew. But things soon get weird, when strange people in robes start appearing, and tentacled creatures burst out of the dead. And what’s lurking in the hospital basement…?
The performances in this film are all from actors you’ve never heard of, and with good reason, they’re terrible. But that’s part of the fun, perhaps, since the characters are all hysterical and their dialogue barely matches up with unfolding events. (A state trooper being shocked to find out that there’s a pregnant woman in a hospital is a personal favourite moment)
And the unfolding events are just loosely strung together to showcase the creatures, which are impressive and disgusting. Sadly, the camera and plot never really explore the monsters, who they are, what they are, … they’re just there. Which means that although the film has some fun gore and blood, it never has any tension or scares.
All in all, it’s a bit of a laugh, but it could have been something much, much better. I don’t really recommend this film.
See It If: One for true horror fans, this offers plenty of visuals and creature design, but little plot or character development.
Aw, I’m keeping my expectations low, due to the mixed reviews so far. But with so many comparing the film to Lucio Fulci, John Carpenter and Clive Barker, I have to give it a shot! I hope it was at least good fun for you! 🙂

It’s always fun for me watching a “bad” horror. I don’t know why. But since some people love it, maybe you’ll get a kick out of it? Who knows, is love to hear your thoughts when you see it.

I feel the same way about They Live, John Carpenter’s they-are-here-and-they-are-running-everything effort from 1998. A great idea, poorly executed. Budget limitations were obviously a factor in the look of the aliens. That punchup about halfway through seems to have been dragged out for the sole purpose of getting the running time to about 90 minutes. Still, it’s got its moments. One moment in particular that has entered cinema history.

He he. Yes, They Live is a great film but at the same time, certainly dated and with budgetary issues!

I’ve always loved watching virus body horror type of movies- The Thing being up there as a firm favourite of mine so I’m always intrigued when I hear about movies such as these but it’s a shame it wasn’t as good as the trailer had made it seem. Saying that my skin is itching to watch it none the less. 😷

The Thing is awesome. ❤️ It’s not really a virus movie, it’s more a creature feature, with creepy cult elements.

Hmm, too bad. Ever since The Thing, I have always been a fan of monster films. I had some hopes for this one, after first hearing of this project, but reading this I am going to pass on this one for a bit. Wil probably see it sometime in the future, if only for the creatures that are in it. And ofcourse I have to see the scene of the State Trooper that is shocked by finding a pregnant woman lol 😂

The Thing is a wonderful film!
Ha ha! This film had us in stitches, it’s so odd and the dialogue…. but the creatures are interesting and well realised. Some people are raving about this film!
