Me, for those of you who don’t know what I look like.

The Interview

1. How long have you been blogging, and what made you get started in the first place?

I think I started this blog back in maybe 2014. (I started a second blog more recently which is all about fashion and lifestyle, called CravenWild) I started this blog after graduating from film school, as part of my website as a filmmaker and screenwriter. I felt that talking about movies and making them would be a good thing to do with my downtime. And it has been! Once I started, I was asked to write for other publications like Film Doctor, Whirligig Cinema and ScreenJabber, and I attend screenings in London regularly, including a red carpet event where I interviewed Tom Cruise for the premiere of the latest Jack Reacher film.

2. Say that you could interview someone on your blog, who would it be, and why?

I’ve been to press events with Roger Corman and Terry Gilliam, they were both amazing to talk to. I’ve also been to a rough cut screening with John Landis, who is a very sweet and funny guy. I hope that in future, I’ll be interviewing people like this on my blog. Wouldn’t that be great? I think in some ways, it would be nicer to have someone over to dinner rather than interview them, because it would be so great to really get to know them. I think my wish list dinner guests would be Robin William, Jennifer Lawrence, Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. And maybe Orson Welles, and Jeff Nichols… actually there are too many! ha ha!

3. What is your favorite Movie/TV show of all time?

I’m actually not really a TV watcher. I tend to watch films, though I do binge watch series if I like them. Gilmore Girls is probably my favourite guilty pleasure TV show. My favourite movie is Casablanca, because I love the Film Noir elements, and I think it has everything: humour, sadness, romance, Bogart, Bergman, war, drama, intrigue… It’s a brilliant film, and I still love watching it, even though I think I know all the lines by now by heart!

4. Do you own any merchandise? If so, what is the thing that you like the most in your collection?

I own a sheriffs mug from the Netflix TV show Longmire. I love all things cowboy. Does that count? I actually like movie merchandise and artifacts, and used to have a few from films I’d worked on, I have no idea if I still have them. I have some DVD’s of my friends films that they have given me, which I treasure. And an actor friend of mine always leaves signed headshots in my house when he stays over from Canada, which I think is a sweet calling card. (Mackenzie Gray, you’ll find him on IMDB) I’d love to buy movie props and things, maybe I will one day when I have a larger flat and more money!

5. Is there anything you would like to do someday, but just have not yet been able to accomplish?

Oh my… So many things! I tend to not talk about the future or goals because I feel that it’s better to keep them to yourself, rather than have people talk to you about them and say something negative. But if we’re talking big dreams… I’d love to win an Oscar, or sell my film scripts in Hollywood. Or make my own huge blockbuster movie.

6. What is the post you are most proud of, and why is that?

That’s a tough one. I think that I’m pretty proud of being selected to talk to Tom Cruise on the red carpet. But I do know that it’s not my best writing. It was just a really big break for me, and Tom was so kind. Perhaps I can say the same about my first post that covered a preview screening. Sitting there with all these journalists from newspapers and magazines in London, I just thought… OK, this is great! This can be my day job.

7. Has there ever been a post on your blog that you have regretted writing? If so, why is that?

No, I don’t think so. I think I’m a more comfortable online writer than I was, so I might cringe a little over my older work, but it’s all part of the learning process. I try not to write anything too personal on the internet. I find it hard sometimes when I have to give a negative review, I always think about the person that made the film, and how they would feel if they read my words, honest but fair is what I go for.

8. Why did you get interested in movies?

My whole family has always loved movies, of all different genres, languages and styles. I was exposed at a young age and just fell in love with the whole thing. I ended up moving to London from Australia to finish studying film making, and I take it all pretty seriously now. I think movies can change your life, by informing you, inspiring you, giving hope or a laugh when it’s needed. But I think when I was a kid, I just loved all the glamour and adventure. That’s where it started.

9. Do you have any goals that you would like to ultimately achieve with your blog?

I’d love to attend more preview screenings, and along with that attend more press events. It’s really fun to talk to the people who make films about what they do, so I’d like to include more interviews. I also am making a short film this year, so that process will probably be covered here. I think that will be really fun to share with you.

10. What if you could star in your own Anime/Movie? What kind of Anime/Movie would it be, and who would you play?

I’d love to be in an action movie. Wouldn’t that be fun? Maybe be one of the XMen, or Catwoman, or… maybe star in the Fast and the Furious franchise. I’d love to have a fight scene. Not that I know how to fight! I also think a period drama would be fun, because of the costumes. So if I starred in my very own film… Maybe a swashbuckling detective in a steampunk universe, who has special powers? ha ha! That covers all of the above!

11. What was the worst movie that you have ever seen?

I think the best/worst movie is generally accepted as being The Room, and if you haven’t seen it, you really should, it’s so bad it’s got a cult following. Always get’s a giggle out of me (If you’re London based, I know they do regular screenings at the Prince Charles in Leicester Square). Other than that, I’ve had to watch some real stinkers for online magazines, and been sent the discs and everything. It’s mostly the horrors that are so bad they’re barely watchable. There’s one that stands out in my memory, I won’t name names since it wasn’t for this site, but man… It was a home invasion horror that was just really rapey. It wasn’t scary, just sad and disgusting. Sorry to end on a downer there!

Thank you again for this wonderful award, things like this mean a lot to me. I’ll be displaying this badge with pride.

  2. Well congratulations on the award but more so on such an exciting and wonderful day job. You must work very hard and be very good at it, they don’t give those gigs to everybody. 🙂 Well except Richard Wilkins for some reason. I like your idea for an anime film.
