British spy movie, set in the cold war and based on the best selling novel by Le Carré, in which a retired member of the Secret Service elite is tasked with investigating a possible double agent in the top echelons of the new establishment. Smiley, played by the incredible Gary Oldman, has his work complicated for him by his personal feelings, including his wife having had an affair with one of the possible spies.
One of the best films in the year it came out, and one of the best spy films, this has joined the ranks of classic cinema due to it’s excellent performances, it’s slow burn, bleakness and clever, twisting plot. Oldman really outdoes himself, being both reserved, taciturn, and yet somehow vulnerable. Can a man be both strong and weak? Apparently so.
See It If: you like spy movies, it’s a real return to form for the genre.

I really need to make time to watch this (and about fifty other films lol) but I ran across the book the other day and flipped through a few pages and it really intrigued me.

There’s a lot of information being tossed at us that it’s kind of hard to keep up with. But ultimately, the cast is what keeps it intriguing. Nice review.
